7 Habits That Improve Your CIBIL Score

CardWiz Team · 9 Jul 2026 · English

A higher credit score means easier approvals and better card/loan offers. Seven habits that help:

  1. Pay on time, always. Payment history is the biggest factor. Even one late bill hurts. Auto-pay the minimum as a safety net.
  2. Keep utilisation low. Using under ~30% of your credit limit signals control. Maxing out cards drags the score.
  3. Pay the full bill, not the minimum. Minimum-only keeps you in debt and interest, and looks risky.
  4. Don't chase too many cards at once. Each application adds a hard enquiry. Space them out.
  5. Keep old cards active. Longer credit history helps. Don't shut your oldest card casually.
  6. Check your report yearly. Dispute errors — someone else's default on your report is fixable.
  7. Mix responsibly. A healthy blend of credit types, handled well, reads better than none.

Scores move slowly. Consistency over months — not tricks — is what actually builds them.
